Accommodation
Shaws Wood has undergone extensive refurbishment over the summer of 2014. Having previously undertaken the Excellence in Dementia program led by Bradford University, we have redesigned the home to current recommendations on environment.
Dementia Garden
We have a new look secure garden open and free to access during daylight hours. The garden was designed with bus stop, letter box and a beautiful array of flowers to accompany seating areas. We also have included troughs to enable those green fingers among our residents to actively continue their interests in the garden.
Corridors
Corridors have been colour coded to aid movement around the home helping residents to clearly identify routes around the home and location of their bedrooms. Care has been taken to sympathetically use contrasting colours to ensure we do not loose any of our homely feel.
Themes
We now have themes for communal areas to help identify social space within the home. We have a movie, media lounge decorated with film stars from yester year and included vintage movie posters to help memories. We have reminiscence lounge decorated with retro wall paper and furbished with items such as type writers and an old sewing machine.
Rooms
All rooms are single occupancy. Furniture can be provided or brought from home and we strongly encourage rooms to be personalised with pictures and ornaments etc as well as a TV or radio if required. All rooms contain washing facilities and four are en-suite. A Telephone point can be added and wifi access is in the process of being added.
